Thomas’s Clapham is an exciting place, a modern looking school where a respect for traditional values and love of learning make it a happy and flourishing community.
Thomas’s Clapham is a community filled with energy, excitement and enjoyment. Their learning environments are expertly guided by ambitious and passionate staff who inspire children to think and learn in creative and engaging ways.
After receiving the Teacher Ideas Pack, via the Teachers Pet hub, a bespoke timetable was created to meet the needs of the school. See below:
9:00 – 9:50am
To begin with, all children in Year 1 experienced the dragon story in the hall. Pupils became immersed in a story and then trained a ‘real’ dragon to become the protector of their village. The story finished with a cliff hanger and children were encouraged to create their own endings.
10:10am – 12noon
During the green screen session, children are transported to the mountains where they imagine that they are having to escape the wrath of a dragon. Children discuss how they would feel, what they would do and describe the dragon, using exciting vocabulary. Following from this, children act out a scenario and then groups were picked to act on the green screen. They were then shown how to create their own films using the app ‘Green Screen’ by Do Ink and saw themselves on the large screen. Teachers used this session as CPD session as to how to bring tech into the classroom in a simple way. All footage was then shared with staff and deleted from Teach Rex equipment for GDPR compliance.
To finish, children met the baby dragons and were encouraged to use their kind words to make them feel happier.
Testimonial
Firstly just WOW! Today was magical and full of depth for all areas of learning in KS1!
Joe, your experience as a teacher and knowledge allowed you to weave in learning from all areas of the curriculum from English to Science! Jack, having you back from being a former Thomas’s student was such fun and the children loved it.
I think the highlight will be Mr Boller being picked to play with the dragon.
A huge THANK YOU from all the year 1 team!
