Introducing Pobble
In a recent blog article, we talked about Teacher’s Pet, an excellent teaching resource with whom we have worked for some time. In that same vein, today we’re going to talk about Pobble, one of the best online communities for supporting and encouraging creative writing in children.
As anyone who has attended our workshops, particularly one of our dragon workshops, will know, we are firm believers in the power of storytelling. It is of immeasurable benefit when it comes to developing core skills such as vocabulary, spelling, plotting, writing, and more. Pobble understands that too and offers a host of resources and writing prompts for children of all ages.
What is Pobble?
Pobble is an online teaching resource intended to engage and motivate schoolchildren by providing them with writing ideas and story starters every day of the year. Most children are natural storytellers, but they struggle with finding that jumping off point that can get them started. Pobble provides a solution to that problem, with page after page of carefully curated writing prompts that can help you get your class’s imaginations running wild.
A Wide Range of Writing Resources
Pobble is more than just a list of writing ideas. They offer a ton of opportunities for children to engage with writing and storytelling in a classroom or home environment. These include:
Pobble 365: a daily collection of writing prompts and challenges centred around a unique and engaging image. Each picture comes with writing challenges, questions to encourage discussion, debate, and brainstorming, as well as a series of story starters for anyone struggling with the blank page.
Topics and themes: Pobble provides longer and more detailed writing projects that are closely linked to key curriculum objectives. Rather than just encouraging the art of storytelling, these topics help pupils develop the craft of writing. They cover a variety of writing styles and genres, focusing on spelling, vocabulary, sentence structure, punctuation, and more.

Pobble News: the Pobble team puts together weekly writing activities that relate to the news and current events. All of these topics are carefully chosen to be suitable for the age group of each child and to help them build an awareness of the world around them.
Quote Writes: sometimes you don’t want a lengthy writing exercise; you just want something short and snappy to get your pupils thinking. That’s exactly what Quick Writes offers.
Word Banks: categorised word banks that cover key vocabulary topics for all school ages and are ready for immediate use.
The Archive: Every post, every prompt, every blog article, and every Pobble 365 picture is kept on the site’s archive. It’s an endless treasure trove of inspiration, perfect for eager students who want to write in their free time.
A Supportive Community
Perhaps the best thing about Pobble is that it connects children from across the country with a shared love of writing. Pupils get to publish their work online, where it can be read and critiqued by other children and teachers. Of course, they can do the same thing, commenting on other pupils’ work, even ones that they don’t know and have never met. This encourages critical thinking, which is an important skill for later in their academic careers. All Pobble servers are completely secure and comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) for your peace of mind.
