About the School

The school aims to work in partnership with families to enable each child to reach the highest possible standards of learning, whilst encouraging everyone to develop an enthusiasm for life, together with a sense of pride in themselves, our school and our community. Hackbridge Primary School is in the process of expansion to four forms of entry (with the final year of expansion due to occur in September 2025).

What we did

After receiving the Teacher Ideas Pack, via the Teachers Pet hub, a bespoke timetable was created to meet the needs of the school. See below:

9:00 – 9:45am

Day 1: KS1 Dragon Day

During workshop 1, Years 1 and 2 became immersed in a mythical story where they met the large dragon. The children became the villagers and trained the dragon to become the protector of the village. They were then encouraged to create their own endings to the story. During this workshop children took part in various interactive games to ensure maximum engagement during the session. Reception also experienced this workshop but the delivery was tailored to ensure that the Reception children grasped the story. Finally, Nursery met the large dragon in much more of a meet and greet session rather than it being story.

During the second workshop, all of the children met the baby dragons. One of the baby dragons is described as being sad due to difficulties it faces in school with not being able to pronounce certain letters correctly. The dragon is blue but happy dragons are green. The children use their kind words and by the end of the workshop the baby dragon changes colour to green because of the children’s words. The overall focus of this workshop is heavily linked to PSHE.

10:10 – 10:55am | 11:00 – 11:45am

Day 2: KS2 Orangutan

Firstly, children were engrossed in a ‘true’ story about a baby orangutan whose family were taken away by poachers. The children listened to how Fito the orangutan grew up in the rainforest and how the negative impacts of humans effected his habitat. The children explored these negative impacts during the story. Finally, children discussed the term conservation and how they can change minor behaviours to help the environment and animals around the world.

In the second workshop, children became conservationists and explored vocabulary linked to their year group and the curriculum. They acted out different scenarios in the jungle and then learnt how to crate their own films themselves. Teachers also used this session as a CPD session as to how to bring technology into the classroom.

What the school said

“Thank you again for last week. It was such a hit – AGAIN! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will be in touch very soon to get two more dates in the diary for next academic year. Feedback from the OFTSED was all good!😉 He used the words ‘magic happens here’ which was just wonderful. I do think the giant dragons and Fito helped with this! So thanks again!”
