About the School

North London Collegiate School Dubai combines an ambitious academic education with pastoral care that genuinely values each individual and a range of extra-curricular activities that caters for every possible interest and talent. For families who aspire to world-class universities for their children, we bring a unique educational offering to Dubai.

“We chose NLCS Dubai based on the rich history of the school in the UK. Our children fell in love with the school from the first day of its launch.” – NLCS Dubai Parent

From Pre-Kindergarten through to Grade 1, children are taught by their class teacher, supported by a teaching assistant. Much of their learning is through play and practical activities and is designed to inspire the children, to foster curiosity, inquiry and reflection. In keeping with the principles of the IBPYP there is also a strong emphasis on trans-disciplinary learning – allowing students to make links across the curriculum and to discover their own interests in an atmosphere which encourages independence, personal responsibility and care for others.

What we did

After receiving the Teacher Ideas Pack, via the Teachers Pet hub, a bespoke timetable was created to meet the needs of the school. See below:

8:10 – 8:50am

Day 1: KG2 Orangutan

During the first workshop children were transported to the jungle in their theatre. They took part in the session on the stage to ensure maximum engagement and also to get up close to Fito the orangutan. The children listened to the emotive story about Fito’s life in the Bornean rainforest and how the negative impacts of humans were having a detrimental impact on his life and many millions of other animals too. The children took part in interactive games and were encouraged to interact with Fito. At the end of the session each class were given the opportunity to get a class photograph with Fito.

9:20 – 11:40am

Green screen

In the green screen workshop, children took the role of conservationists and explored emotions as to how they would be feeling if they found themselves in the rainforest. The children described Fito using adjectives and similes too. From this, they were then given the opportunity to do some acting, with several groups acting out a scenario on the green screen, where they would later be transported to the heart of the Bornean rainforest. Finally, the children were taught how to create their own films themselves in order to bring their learning to life. Teachers used this as a CPD session too so that they could use the session in the future in other areas of the curriculum. All footage was shared with the school and deleted for GDPR compliance.

12:30 – 2:20pm

Baby animals

Finally, the children met the baby sloth and baby Cherokee. They were encouraged to use their kind words to make the sloth feel better as he felt that he looked different to other baby sloths. The children were also asked to give the baby Cherokee advice as to how to improve it’s flying. Lots of different vocabulary was covered relevant to the curriculum.
